three directions at the same time

advance apologies for the large and non-directional post (got lots goin' on today).
There has been all kinds of buzzin' about Nelly Furtado's new album so I decided to give it a try - with very low expectations. I have to admit that I was pleased with most of it and the few tracks that I didn't really dig are kind of forgivable because of the goodly pop sugar she lays down on the others.
If you've read this blog for a while you've probably seen a couple of posts regarding or at least refering to my general disdain for radio. I hope that hasn't been confused with songs or artists that happen to end up on the radio. I learned a long time ago (when Depeche Mode and The Cure started getting some US radio play) that didn't negate any contribution to my own musical landscape that someone may be able to make. That being said Nelly Furtado is far from indie and non-commercial. She is yet another in the long line of actors that try their hand at music to at least some commercial success. All of that is stacked against her and still I kind of like this album ( yes, I'm the same guy with a post yesterday about a punk band, get over it).

In other news....
I just realized that I am going to be in Chicago when Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) is playing Schuba's. I also realized that it was nearing time to end the long running contest for some cool Grandaddy posters and buttons. Entering is easy - everyone has special names for their grandparents.
